About
Drew Gunnells, M.D., is a colorectal specialist with Grandview Medical Group. Dr. Gunnells is double board certified in general surgery and colon rectal surgery. He has special interests in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, colon cancer, rectal cance, anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis and benign anorectal pathology.
Dr. Gunnells completed his undergraduate degree at Clemson University. He attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and completed his residency at UAB. Dr. Gunnells completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.
While at UAB, Dr. Gunnells led the colorectal cancer service line for the O’Neal Cancer Center and was instrumental in developing their rectal cancer program.
Dr. Gunnells says he fell in love with surgery while working as an assistant in the OR during college. The chance to help potentially cure someone of a disease through surgery was fascinating to him. The most rewarding part of his job now is being able to help patients navigate these difficult diagnoses and then offer a surgical procedure with a potential cure.
In his spare-time, Dr. Gunnells enjoys hunting or playing golf when not chasing his kids around a ball field.
